STR Businesses Could See More Regulations in Hocking County

11/24/2025

Hocking County, Ohio, is considering new regulations for its rapidly growing short-term rental industry as tourism surges in the Hocking Hills. Local officials say unregulated cabins—often deep in the woods with steep, narrow driveways—pose serious safety risks, making it difficult for fire trucks and ambulances to reach emergencies. A proposed countywide ordinance would require permits, driveway standards, occupancy limits, and a local contact able to respond within 30 minutes. Rental owners strongly oppose the measures, arguing they are costly, impractical, and could shrink revenue in an already challenging market.
