    VRMA's Statement on the Passing of Boston's Short-Term Rental Ordinance

    WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Vacation Rental Management Association (VRMA), an international trade association representing professional property managers of traditional short-term vacation rentals, released the following statement in response to the passing of Boston’s short-term rental ordinance:

    “The Vacation Rental Management Association is disappointed with Boston’s approach to the short-term rental community,” said Mike Copps, executive director of VRMA. “The ordinance excludes non-owner occupied rentals, based on misleading claims that vacation rentals are a cause of Boston’s housing affordability issues. The ordinance has severely limited property rights of the estimated 3,000 secondary properties in Boston. Restricting rentals to primary residences forces professional managers out of the picture and decreases the ability for a community to enforce the ordinance while increasing lodging costs in an already expensive market,” Copps continued. “Our offer still stands to work with policymakers on a solution that alleviates residents’ concerns, achieves policy goals and allow for non-owner occupied units to be utilized.”
