Airbnb Bans Checkout Chores

10/27/2026

Airbnb has updated its policies to prevent hosts from requiring guests to complete time-consuming checkout chores, such as stripping beds, taking out trash, or washing and putting away dishes. Hosts may still ask guests to place used tableware in the sink. The changes aim to make house rules clearer and reduce unreasonable demands. Standard rules covering check-in times, guest numbers, smoking, pets and quiet hours will appear more prominently across listings and reservation reminders. Airbnb will flag noncompliant requests for removal or appeal. Cleaning fees must cover standard turnover cleaning, and guests cannot be charged for skipping checkout tasks.
