Albuquerque City Council narrowly rejected new restrictions on short-term rentals (STRs), voting against a proposal that would have limited new permits near existing ones. The bill, amended to require a 100-foot buffer instead of the original 330 feet, was aimed at preserving residential neighborhoods. Supporters said clusters of short-term rentals were changing the character of some areas, while opponents argued the rules would hurt residents who rely on rental income and reduce tourism dollars. The defeat marks the third time in recent years the council has voted down similar STR regulations.
