Birmingham City Leaders Closer to Approving STR Regulations
3/12/2025
Officials in Birmingham, Alabama, say they are closer to passing new regulations concerning short-term rentals. Under the current proposal, if approved, STRs will not be permitted in single-family residential areas. Policy makers also want to limit the number of rentals to 1,000, or about 1% of all residences in the city. If the number exceeds 1,000, the city will conduct a random drawing to award permits. There will be a specific process for obtaining these permits, including an application approval and having a business license. Another rule under the proposal states that the property owner must live near the rental property.
