CA City Council Considers Stronger Enforcement of Short-Term Rental Ban

The Irvine City Council is considering changes to its short-term rental ordinance that would use California’s new Short-Term Rental Facilitator Act, SB 346, to strengthen enforcement of the city’s existing STR ban. The proposal would require booking platforms to provide monthly compliance data—including property addresses, parcel numbers, and listing URLs—and would allow each individual listing and each day it remains online to constitute a separate violation. City staff reported tracking 347 active STR cases over the past year despite Irvine’s prohibition on rentals of 30 days or less.
