Croatia to Clamp Down on Short-Term Rentals
11/26/2024
A package of draft laws was approved in the Croatian parliament last week to regulate short-term rentals, but the final nationwide legislation will only be passed following wider discussion and likely amendments. Croatian Finance Minister Marko Primorac said that the laws will raise taxes on houses for rent and the lump sum tax on tourist rental, but will not affect housing units where people live long term or where people live in their own property. Tourism accounts for some 20% of Croatia's gross domestic product, with about 125,000 people employed in the home rentals business. Some of those who rent their properties short term are worried by the proposed legislation.
