Dallas Takes STR Fight to Texas Supreme Court
10/27/2025
Dallas has appealed to the Texas Supreme Court in its ongoing legal battle over short-term rentals in single-family neighborhoods. The city argues lower courts erred in blocking ordinances that aim to move STRs to multifamily or commercial zones, asserting the rules do not violate property rights. The regulations, passed in 2023, require annual registration, fees, occupancy limits, noise limits, and emergency contacts, while limiting penalties per operator. Courts have sided with STR operators, who claim the rules effectively shutter most rentals. City officials stress the ordinances protect housing stock, neighborhood character, and tourism tax collection, especially with the FIFA World Cup approaching.
