Data Suggests Travelers Are Treating Vacation Rentals as Private Resorts
9/1/2026
Travelers are increasingly treating vacation rentals as private resorts, prioritizing spacious homes and shared experiences alongside destination choice. KEY.co founder Kim Lalande says demand is shifting toward larger properties that keep multigenerational families and groups of friends together under one roof. KEY.co’s Summer 2026 data shows bookings for homes with five or more bedrooms nearly doubled from 24% in 2024 to 57% of reservations. Guests are also staying longer, filling more bedrooms, and spending more on convenience services. Add-on bookings rose 64% year over year, led by grocery stocking, private chefs, in-home massages, and beach rentals.
