Florence, Italy, Plans Major Expansion of STR Curbs Beyond Historic Center
6/1/2026
Florence, Italy, is planning a major expansion of its restrictions on short-term rentals, extending limits beyond the UNESCO-listed historic center to cover much larger parts of the city. The proposal, expected to be voted on in early June, would block the creation of new STRs across about 16 square kilometers, nearly tripling the number of affected homes to more than 103,000. While existing STRs would not be immediately removed, no new ones would be allowed once the rules take effect. The city says the policy is intended to preserve residential life and balance tourism with local needs.
