Glasgow Consults on STR License Exemption for Commonwealth Games
1/5/2026
Glasgow City Council is consulting on a temporary exemption from short-term rental licenses during the 2026 Commonwealth Games later this year. The exemption would cover all short-term let types, including home sharing, home letting, and secondary letting, to address expected accommodation pressures from around 3,000 athletes and up to 500,000 spectators. Operators would still need to apply to the licensing authority and pay a fee. The public consultation runs until February, after which councilors will decide whether to implement the temporary measure.
