Hillsborough County, FL, Considers STR Registration Requirements

9/1/2026

Hillsborough County, Florida, is considering a new ordinance establishing registration and business requirements for short-term vacation rentals. The proposal would require STR owners to register their properties and designate a local responsible party who can respond to complaints or issues involving a rental. County officials say the framework is intended to improve compliance with existing health, safety, and code requirements while providing owners and guests with additional information about local rules. The Board of County Commissioners was scheduled to hold a public hearing and consider adoption on Sept. 2. Tampa officials have also examined whether the city could opt into the county framework.
