Idaho House Passes Bill to Limit Local STR Regulations
2/16/2026
Short-term rental owners in Idaho moved one step closer to regulatory relief when the state's House of Representatives approved a bill limiting local government oversight late last week. This marked the third attempt made by Rep. Jordan Redman (R) for District 3 to push a bill that limits regulations on STRs. House Bill 583 will ensure property owners can use their homes for temporary lodging without facing "undue regulation and burdens" from local governments, according to Redman. This would mainly impact such short-term rental property owners and marketplaces as Airbnb and Vrbo. Under the legislation, cities and counties would only be permitted to regulate short-term rentals in three narrow areas.
