Idaho Senate Passes Bill Limiting Local STR Regulations
3/10/2026
The Idaho Senate passed House Bill 583 in a 23–12 vote, limiting how local governments can regulate short-term rentals (STRs). The bill allows cities and counties to impose regulations only when they address public-safety concerns, preventing broader ordinances targeting STRs specifically. Supporters, including the Idaho Vacation Rental Association, say the measure promotes fair and consistent enforcement across housing types. The legislation has cleared both chambers of the Idaho Legislature and now awaits approval from Gov. Brad Little. If signed, the law will take effect near the end of 2026.
