A judge in the state of Georgia has delayed a final ruling in a lawsuit challenging Tybee Island’s regulations on short-term vacation rentals. Property managers and owners, organized as the Tybee Alliance, argue the city’s ordinances — requiring annual permit renewals, data collection, and proof of market-rate bookings — violate state law. The city contends short-term rentals are commercial properties and subject to zoning rules, inspections, and tax-related recordkeeping. After hearing both sides, Judge Christopher took the case under advisement and requested transcripts before issuing a decision.
