Kelowna, BC, Allowed to Opt Out of STR Rules This Summer
4/21/2026
Kelowna has been granted a temporary exemption from British Columbia’s short-term rental restrictions, allowing more flexibility for the 2026 summer tourism season. The Canadian province’s rules, introduced to boost long-term housing supply, had limited rentals to primary residences, but the opt-out reflects Kelowna’s improved vacancy rates and major upcoming events. Business leaders welcomed the move, saying it will increase accommodation options and support the local economy. The province also plans to speed up opt-out processes for other qualifying communities starting in 2027.
