More Than Software: Why People Still Choose OwnerRez

At first glance, OwnerRez might seem like just another property management system. We have powerful automation, deep channel integrations, flexible workflows, and features that help vacation rental managers run their businesses more efficiently.
But that’s not why customers stay.
From the beginning, OwnerRez was built by people who managed vacation rentals themselves. We created the software we wished existed, software that solved real operational problems instead of forcing owners and property managers to adapt to rigid processes. That philosophy still guides every decision we make today.
Years ago, many people assumed OwnerRez was only for individual owners or small operators. As larger property management companies began taking a closer look, they discovered something different. They found a platform that was not only capable of handling complex operations but often offered more flexibility and control than systems designed specifically for enterprise customers.
That flexibility comes from what we’ve long called the power of parameterization, building systems that can adapt to the way different businesses operate rather than forcing everyone into the same workflow. As an engineer-led company, we believe software should bend to fit your business, not the other way around.
But flexibility alone doesn’t explain our growth.
The real reason OwnerRez has continued to grow is much simpler: We believe great software should create happy customers.
That idea has influenced our company since the beginning. Tony Hsieh’s Delivering Happiness helped put words to something we already believed, that lasting businesses are built by genuinely caring about the people they serve.
For us, that philosophy extends well beyond customer support.
It influences how we design features. It shapes how we hire. It affects how we work with partners. It guides the decisions we make when no one is watching.
Sometimes creating happiness means saying “yes.” Sometimes it means saying “not yet.”
For example, we don’t approve integrations simply because someone builds against our API. Every integration is tested by our own team before we recommend it to customers. That process occasionally requires partners to make additional improvements before launch, but the result is a better experience for everyone involved: our users, our support team, and ultimately, our partners themselves.
We believe quality is an investment, not an obstacle.
The same philosophy applies internally.
We’ve always described OwnerRez as a “people-first” company. That means we care deeply about our customers, but also about the people who build and support the product every day. Long-term success requires treating both groups well.
Being “people first” also means being financially responsible. We’ve never believed in chasing growth at any cost or taking shortcuts that compromise the future of the business. Sustainable companies are able to continue investing in their customers, employees, and products for years, not just quarters.
Sometimes that means making difficult decisions.
Whether it’s adjusting pricing, delaying a feature until it’s truly ready, or choosing not to pursue an opportunity that doesn’t align with our values, we’re willing to accept short-term discomfort in exchange for long-term trust.
That trust is something we work hard to earn.
One thing that has always made OwnerRez different is how closely our leadership stays connected to customers. Our founders continue to spend time interacting directly with users because there’s simply no better way to understand how the product is actually being used. Every conversation reinforces what’s working, exposes what isn’t, and reminds us that every feature request or support question represents someone’s business, not just another ticket.
Listening has always been one of our greatest competitive advantages.
Over the years, we’ve learned another important lesson: Our smallest customers often teach us the biggest lessons.
A host managing a handful of properties can uncover workflow issues just as quickly as a company managing hundreds. Internally, we’ve joked about “development by maximum annoyance,” the idea that persistent customer feedback often uncovers the improvements that make the platform better for everyone.
Those conversations have shaped countless enhancements across OwnerRez.
Technology continues to evolve. Customer expectations continue to evolve. Our product will continue to evolve, too.
What won’t change is our commitment to building software that respects the people using it.
We believe software companies should see their customers as partners, not account numbers.
We believe employees should enjoy building products they’re proud of.
We believe transparency builds trust.
And we believe businesses that consistently create happy customers create lasting success, for everyone involved.
At the end of the day, that’s what OwnerRez has always been about—not simply building better software, but creating happiness.
