NY Legislature Passes STR Registry Bill
6/12/2024
A bill to create a statewide short-term rental (STR) registry now awaits the Governor Kathy Hochul's signature after it passed in the state Senate and Assembly with bipartisan support. If signed into law, the bill would require property owners to register their STRs with the Department of State every two years, while the Department would be required to keep track of the number of rentals in each community. Details of the reported properties e.g., locations and occupancy nights, would be reported monthly by the Department to municipalities. While Hochul is expected to sign the bill into law, it's unclear when that will happen.
