Over Half of United Kingdom Second Homeowners Consider STR Letting Amid Tax Changes

A survey by Sykes Holiday Cottages found 71% of second homeowners in England who don’t currently let their properties are now more likely to, driven by tax changes and council tax surcharges. Over half are considering short-term holiday lets. With 280,000 underused second homes, opening them to tourists could add £10.5 billion annually to local economies. Sykes estimates owners could earn £24,700 per year, boosting both incomes and tourism-dependent communities.
