Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker has scaled back a proposed hotel tax increase after opposition from the local hotel industry. Instead of raising the city's hotel lodging tax by 2%, the revised proposal would increase it by only 0.6%, while adding a new 6% tax hike on short-term rental platforms. The additional revenue would help fund homelessness initiatives across the city. Philadelphia City Council is expected to vote on the broader $7 billion budget proposal next month.
