Routt County to Put 6% STR Lodging Tax for Outlying Areas on Ballot
9/2/2025
Commissioners in Routt County, Colorado, voted to place a 6% lodging tax on short-term rentals on the November ballot for areas outside Steamboat Springs and Hayden, which already have taxes. Enabled by new state legislation raising the lodging tax cap from 2% to 6%, the tax could generate about $821,000 annually, with 10% earmarked for tourism marketing and 90% for infrastructure, public safety, and community services. Property owners would collect and remit the tax, while commissioners emphasized its role in managing tourism impacts, supporting local services, and maintaining quality of life for residents and visitors.
