Short-Term Rental Cleaning Fees—the Global Numbers

An analysis of data from Airbnb and Vrbo by AirDNA found that 89% of listings in the United States charge cleaning fees, followed by Aruba (88.6%), and Curacao (86.7%) as of April 1, 2025. Among the countries with the lowest percentage of cleaning fees on short-term rental listings were Kazakhstan (15.3%), Sri Lanka (17.9%), and Madagascar (20.5%). Experts say that the fees vary because of differing hospitality standards, cultures, and the nature of competition.
