STR Platforms Rolling Out Alternative Business Models

Short-term rental hosts are increasingly exploring alternatives to dominant platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo due to rising fees and limited control over customer relationships. New models, particularly subscription-based offerings, are gaining traction as platforms such as Lake.com and Savvy aim to reduce reliance on commission structures and enable direct bookings. Other approaches include free or low-cost property management tools to attract underserved hosts. As the industry changes, however, larger platforms are also adapting. Said Tim Rosolio, vice president of vacation rental partnerships at Expedia Group, “As the industry evolves, we’re continuing to identify ways our business model can best support partners and long-term marketplace health.”
