STR Restrictions Rolled Back in Ireland

The Irish government has revised its short-term rental restrictions, now applying only to towns and cities with populations over 20,000, up from a previous 10,000 threshold. Minister for Tourism Peter Burke said the change aims to protect smaller towns with high tourism demand but limited accommodation. Over half of Ireland’s short-term lets are in the five largest cities, where housing pressure is greatest. Legislation is expected by mid-2026.
