Tripadvisor Shutters Vacation Rental Direct Bookings in Favor of Third-Party Providers
9/25/2024
Tripadvisor announced that it would cancel vacation rental reservations with check-in data on or after Nov. 1 and that guests would receive full refunds as it transitions "to a new business model that leverages third-party providers, in line with our hotels offering." Hopper is among Tripadvisors hotel providers, and it has offered instant bookings within the company's app, but a Tripadvisor spokesperson said the company has no plans to use Hopper for vacation rentals. Tripadvisor's global Holiday Lettings, Niumba, and FlipKey rental brands, however, are likely to be shutdown. The spokesperson said, "Tripadvisor has decided to discontinue the direct booking and management of vacation rentals on its platform. This strategic shift aligns vacation rentals with our existing hotels offering and ensures the best experience for our customers."
