Tybee Island City Council Seeks to Reduce STR Restrictions

The Tybee Island, Georgia, City Council is considering an ordinance that could reduce restrictions on short-term rental permits. This comes nearly nine months later after the City Council banned STRs in residential areas in June 2024, which make up 85% of the island. “Now that they're starting to look at what, you know, what rules they've put in place, they're starting to see a loss of income and property values declining here, anywhere from 25 to 30%,” said Tybee Island realtor Jenny Rutherford.
