Vail to Send New Short-Term Rental Tax to the Ballot in November
8/11/2025
The Vail (Colorado) Town Council on August 5 approved ballot language that will formally present a new 6% tax on short-term rentals on the ballot in the upcoming regular election on November 4. If approved, the measure would take effect on January 1, 2026, and is expected to generate approximately $7.2 million annually. Several representatives from condotels—condominiums that operate like hotels—argued against being included as STR houses. Council member Reid Phillips said the excise tax is an effort "to get funding options for bringing more people and stabilizing our workforce housing.”
