Wyandotte County Officials Propose STR Changes Ahead of World Cup
1/12/2026
Wyandotte County officials are considering temporary changes to short-term rental rules in Kansas City, Kansas, to accommodate the expected influx of visitors for the 2026 World Cup. The proposal would suspend the special use permit process, pause safety inspections, and lift the one-rental-per-block limit for homeowners during the event, simplifying rentals that currently require an 80-day approval. Homeowners and advocates, including Susan Brown of the Missouri Vacation Home Alliance, also seek protections against having short-term rentals classified as commercial properties, which can increase taxes. As of now, 55 short-term rentals are licensed. Officials aim to finalize the temporary World Cup rules by February 5.
