Council Panel Recommends Temporary Investigative Group on Vacation Rentals
The Maui County (Hawaii) Council’s Housing and Land Use Committee voted unanimously to form a Temporary Investigative Group (TIG) to examine policies on vacation rentals in apartment-zoned districts. The move comes as the council debates Bill 9, which proposes phasing out over 7,000 short-term rentals on the “Minatoya List” within three to five years to boost long-term housing for residents. Members aim to address concerns, including the lack of clear rezoning or conditional use permit procedures.
