EU STR Data Rules Come Into Force
Short-term rental (STR) regulations that took effect on May 20 introduce mandatory property registration and expanded data-sharing requirements across EU member states. Hosts must register their properties with national authorities and obtain a unique identification number, which will need to be displayed on listings on platforms. The new framework also requires booking platforms to regularly share detailed rental data with authorities, including listing information, addresses, URLs, and occupancy metrics on a monthly or quarterly basis. While the EU is creating a unified baseline for data and registration, individual countries and cities will retain control over local restrictions such as caps, licensing rules, zoning limits, or outright bans. Industry stakeholders are now focused on how each member state implements and enforces the new system.
