France Introduces New Laws on Renting Out Holiday Homes
A new law in France imposes tight controls on short-term rentals, effective the start of the new year. The new law will "provide tools to mayors and balance the rules between long-term rentals and furnished tourist accommodation," according to Housing Minister Valérie Létard. Any furnished property that is rented out must be properly registered with local authorities and have a registration number. This already applies to dedicated holiday rentals, but will now include primary residences or second homes that their owners rent out while they are away. This is already the case in many towns but will now become a nationwide requirement.
