Ireland Advances STR Regulation With New Bill
Ireland has introduced the Short Term Letting and Tourism Bill to regulate short-term rentals, improve transparency, and support long-term housing availability. The proposed legislation establishes a national register managed by Fáilte Ireland for paid stays of up to 21 nights. Registration is scheduled to open December 1, 2026, with eligible properties required to register by December 31, subject to the bill’s passage. Hosts must display valid registration numbers on advertisements, while online platforms must verify listings and remove those with invalid or missing details when instructed. The legislation also introduces compliance inspections, data-sharing requirements, and penalties for serious platform violations, potentially reaching 2% of annual worldwide turnover.
