Miami Votes to Track Vacation Rentals
Miami commissioners voted to track short-term vacation rentals and develop a plan for stricter regulation and enforcement of illegal units. Commissioner Damian Pardo’s resolution directs the city manager to report on rentals operating for fewer than 30 days and provide quarterly updates on condominium buildings with repeated violations. The move follows scrutiny of The Club at Brickell Bay, where about 85% of units have reportedly been rented nightly despite lacking required permits, licenses, and tax receipts. Residents have complained about disruptive tourists and safety hazards, including unpermitted walls and overcrowding. The city has ordered illegal rentals there to cease, while the condo board seeks a 90-day grace period.
