Some CT Lawmakers Want Statewide Registry, New Tax on STRs
Some state lawmakers in Connecticut are looking to tighten regulations, and potentially add a new tax on short-term rental (STRs). At least two bills have been brought up in the legislature aiming to create a statewide registry for STRs. One, House Bill 5416, is in the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee. In addition to establishing a registry and registration fee, it also authorizes municipalities to impose a supplemental room occupancy tax, and calls for specifying safety standards and liability insurance requirements for short-term rentals owners. Another House Bill (6493) proposes to create a statewide registry as well as a tax on short-term rentals that are not owner-occupied.
