Texas Supreme Court to Hear Dallas’s Fight Over STR Rules
The Texas Supreme Court will hear Dallas’s appeal on December 3 over the city’s restrictions on short-term rentals in single-family neighborhoods. Dallas adopted the regulations more than three years ago following residents’ concerns about housing availability, shootings, and noise from large parties. STR operators challenged the rules, arguing they unfairly restrict property rights and that reported nuisances represent only a small fraction of rental businesses. Operators sued to block enforcement, and a lower court sided with them. Dallas is asking the Supreme Court to lift the stay preventing enforcement, arguing the rules do not prohibit all STRs.
