Tybee Island City Council to Read Revised STR Ordinance
The Tybee Island, Georgia, City Council, has drafted a new ordinance that would eliminate the ability to transfer short-term rental (STR) permits. The ordinance is very similar to the one that was introduced earlier this year. The new ordinance went through the Planning Commission for workshopping on May 9. It would prohibit the transfer of STR licenses for a property upon the property going under new ownership whether that be through a sale or by a family member inheriting a home. The Council had previously pledged to conduct an economic impact study before implementing this ordinance although there’s no word on whether that’s still happening. The May 9 reading of the revised ordinance is a first reading. It would have to go through a second reading to be enacted.
