Work Continues on STR Ordinance in Cass County
Cass County, Minnesota, is a step closer to adopting an ordinance regulating short-term rentals (STRS). Board Chair Rick Haaland opened a public hearing to consider an ordinance during the regular meeting on Jan. 7. Environmental Director Jeff Woodford said the goal with the ordinance is to make it short and concise, therefore the Planning Commission removed wording to condense the previously eight-page ordinance to four pages. The purpose of the ordinance is to allow the continuation of STRs while mitigating possible adverse impacts to the health, safety, welfare, and quality of life of surrounding properties as well as water and environmental quality. The ordinance presented at the hearing stated all unincorporated areas of Cass County zoned Shoreland Residential, Water Oriented Commercial, Commercial, Rural Residential-1, Rural Residential-2.5, Rural Residential-5 and incorporated areas by agreement will be required to apply for an annual license.
