Mesa, Arizona, is the latest East Valley city to regulate short-term rentals, following ordinances enacted in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley earlier this year. Police in those cities can issue citations to both renters and property owners and provide emergency contact, in order to keep both parties accountable. Last month, Phoenix was found to be improperly auditing short-term rentals. The city ordinance mandates those properties to be registered with the city or face a fine. City officials say the ordinance for Mesa is slated to come into force in February 2023. Councilmembers are still trying to settle on license fees and fine amounts.
