The Big Opportunity for Short-Term Rentals

While demand for short-term rentals has showed few signs of waning since the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, building supply has proven more challenging. That has some industry players sensing potential opportunities. Among them is Awaze CEO Henrik Kjellberg, who is eager to capture more supply. "There are a lot of second homes that aren't being rented out," he remarked during a recent speech at Phocuswright Europe. “With rising interest rates, [renting out second homes] is a good way for families to make extra money.” Meanwhile, HomeToGo co-founder and CEO Patrick Andrae says one of the biggest opportunities will be bringing more tech solutions to the supply side. He added that capitalizing on the "workcation" movement is another major priority for his business. In a panel discussion, Kjellberg and Andrae also discussed fragmentation in the European vacation rental market.
